to the moon

Some of my dearest high school friends get together every year for Bishop Kelley's annual Trivia Night fundraiser. There are approximately 100 tables of 10 competing to answer a wide range of trivia questions. I don't know what the grand prize is because we have never come close to attaining it :) We totally stink at trivia. I'm not sure we've answered half of the questions correctly - ever. BUT, we have a great time trying and we strive to exceed at what we are good at - building a tower of beer cans. Not just any tower - the TALLEST (like we win!) ... and yes, we have competition. Kelley alumni are just that cool ...

Yeah, I know. You're probably not impressed and not really sure what to think right now. Well, here's the thing. You should be impressed. 35 cans tall. And it wasn't going anywhere. You hear talk about building a solid foundation. This tower totally had that.

This year we owe our success entirely to Charles, the Mastermind behind the engineering feat of this years tower. He came prepared with packing tape, scissors, and a plan. Everyone else was skeptical, laughed at him, doubted and questioned his plan ... here is a summary of his plan:

Terry: So, what's the plan? (This is when we have a base of about 12ish cans built and Charles has taped up 2 separate stacks of around 12 cans each)

Charles: We're going to tape this one (stack of 12 beer cans) to that one (second stack of beer cans) and send it to the moon!

The moon?!? We almost got there. Almost. Next year, maybe the rafters in the gym. Charles is certain that if we can get the tower up that high we can lean it on a rafter for support. Next year.

I love my friends :)
